The best thing you can do for yourself before you jump completely into building a Manufactured Home is to learn as much as you can. Here are some links that will get you started, but keep in mind that many of these sites are regional or national and often deal with issues that aren't applicable in California. Don't forget the importance of talking with a real person who is there to help you through the process. Mountain Ridge Homes has real people anxious to help.
California Manufactured Housing Institute: Mountain Ridge Homes is a proud member of the California Manufactured Housing Institute. It is a non-profit trade association representing companies in the manufactured housing industry. It is a great site for information specific to California.
Manufactured Housing Institute: MHI is the national trade organization representing all segments of the factory-built housing industry. MHI serves its membership by providing industry research, promotion, education and government relations programs, and by building and facilitating consensus within the industry. This site has the most concrete, unbiased details for the industry that we have seen.
Manufactured Housing Global Network: "the most visited Manufactured Housing Network in the World". Though this site has an incredible amount of information, the most valuable is probably their discussion forums. Be sure to look at the "First Time Home Buyer" forum.
M-H Quote: A great resource, for their large selection of floor plans. We are hesitant to offer this as a link because the pricing information is not applicable to Big Bear. The pricing refers to flatland locations without snowloads, 2 x 6 construction, upgraded insulation and the expense of bringing the homes up our hill.
Homestore: great basic information on manufactured homes.
Mortgage Professor: A greatl resource for truly understanding your mortgage/financial options.
Consumers Union: Helpful information regarding regulations, lending options and dealers
